Youth ends life after mother's death due to COVID, accuses hospital of negligence in video

Hyderabad: A youngster died by suicide after jumping in a lake at Pahadishareef on the outskirts of the city on Saturday. In videos shared with his friends, the youth, Srihari, alleged that he was taking the extreme step after the death of his mother Rukmini.
Rukmini had tested positive for COVID-19 and was undergoing treatment at AIG Hospital in Gachibowli. However, she lost her battle against the coronavirus. Srihari alleged that the hospital had killed his mother with its negligence. In the videos, he urged his friends to sell their house and pay off all those who had helped with hospital expenses and other dues.
The police have launched a search for Srihari's body. The youth's father is a cancer patient and is undergoing treatment at Osmania Hospital. He is not aware of his wife's death and the sudden decision of his son.
Meanwhile, COVID volunteer Sai Charan Chikkulla who helped the family find a bed in AIG Hospital tweeted, "Received a Request on May 18th for Funds or Govt Bed to a Patient admitted in AIG Hospital. Patient Passed away yesterday evening and Son (21yo) didn't able to take his Mother Death, Took his Life too. Sometimes Moral Support could Save Lives, Suicide is not solution (sic)."
In a video, Srihari said his mother's condition was stable but the hospital staff removed the BiPap support and killed her. The hospital said Rukmini died of a cardiac arrest but he said it was negligence that killed her. He alleged that Dr. Sridevi had asked the hospital staff to remove the BiPap machine which killed his mother. He further said that the hospital workers claimed they had given Rukmini oxygen and tried other treatments but in fact, nothing was done to save her. Srihari said he visited his mother in the morning and evening but did not see any such support being provided to her. He also tried to meet a doctor and inquire about her condition, but no doctor was available.
He claimed the hospital staff said Rukmini was going to die in a couple of days so the support was withdrawn. In the video, Srihari alleged that the hospital had killed his mother.
