Telangana's COVID cases cross 50K, death toll 447 recovery rate 77%
By Newsmeter Network Published on 23 July 2020 4:55 PM GMTHyderabad: Telangana has crossed the 50,000 mark after it reported 1,567 COVID-19 cases on 23 July. The total number of cases now stands at 50,826. Meanwhile, nine people died of the virus in the past 24 hours taking the death toll in the state to 447.
It is pertinent to mention that health officials have warned of high number of cases in the coming weeks. "The coming 4-5 weeks are crucial for Telangana as health officials indicate the presence of SARS-Co-V virus in the community", they said.
On 23rd July, The Director of Public Health, Dr G Srinivas Rao, and the Director of Medical Education, Dr K Ramesh Reddy, expressed their concern over the spread of coronavirus in the state. Mr Rao added that citizens need precautions and must take at most care in the coming days . He also said that they have added 12,000 more staff to government hospitals.
Meanwhile, of the 1,567 new cases reported on Thursday, the GHMC area saw the highest number of cases, 662, followed by Rangareddy with 213 cases and Medchal with 33 new cases.
So far, 39,327 patients have recovered in the state. Telangana now has 11,052 active COVID-19 cases. On Wednesday, the ministry of health and family welfare had said that Telangana has the third-highest recovery rate in the country, 77.3 per cent. Also, 13,367 samples were tested in the past 24 hours of which 11.7 per cent tested positive.
Meanwhile, the state government has announced that 15,227 beds are vacant in government hospitals, including 1,226 in Gandhi Hospital.
