Telugu scientist SubbaRao M first Indian to bag American Nutrition Society award

Hyderabad: Telugu scientist from ICMR-NIN Dr. SubbaRao M has made India proud after he was conferred with Mid-career Award for 2020 by American Society for Nutrition (ASN) for his scholarly achievements in Nutrition Education Research, Policy, and Practice.

The award is highly competitive and is presented to a scientist with at least 10 - 19 years of post-terminal degree experience, for outstanding research and contribution to the field of nutrition, education and behavior change, evidenced by excellence in research, publications, teaching, and leaders in the field.

“I am very glad that our researchers are being recognized internationally. It is an honor not only for him but for the institute. To our knowledge, he is the first Indian to receive this award from ASN,” said Dr. R Hemalatha, Director ICMR-NIN.

Dr. SubbaRao is Scientist E and leads a group of Nutrition and Health Communication at ICMR-NIN in Hyderabad. He has been working in the area of Health, Nutrition, and Food Safety communication with special emphasis on social, behavioral, and cultural aspects of communicative processes.

His research and practice go beyond the traditional extension research activities and integrate translational communication science with community- based approaches to promoting nutrition and health.

He has over 63 publications and 10 book chapters to his credit. His work has already been recognized and awarded by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), NASI- Scopus, Nutrition Society of India among others. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health, UK.
