Tharun Bhascker directs web series for Netflix

Hyderabad: With the popularity of online streaming platforms soaring in India due to a wide variety of films and TV shows, a lot of A-list actors and directors have opted to work on projects exclusively for this new entertainment medium.

Shows and films such as ‘Sacred Games’, ‘Delhi Crime’, ‘Inside Edge’, ‘Leila’ and ‘Made in Heaven’ to name a few have not only received critical acclaim but also enjoyed a huge fan following. Going with the trend, Tharun Bhascker has taken up a directorial project – a web series, which is reportedly a Telugu remake of ‘Lust Stories’, to be released on Netflix.

The award-winning director known for box office smash hits like ‘Pelli Choopulu’ and ‘Ee Nagarinki Emaindi’ has also acted in films like ‘Mahanati’, ‘Sammohanam’, ‘Meeku Maathrame Cheptha’ and ‘Falaknuma Das’ which were received well by audiences.

Tharun said that he would prefer working on his strength of directing films and has hence chosen to get back behind the camera. He will be donning the director’s cap again in his next untitled film with Telugu superstar Venkatesh.

The script for the film was left incomplete as Tharun was busy with the Netflix web series, while Venkatesh was working on the sets of ‘Naarappa’. However, now with the wrapping up of the Netflix web series, Tharun is all set to focus on completing the script and getting the ball rolling on his next directorial venture. This is the first time that the veteran actor and the young and talented director will be working together, and there is no doubt that they would bring out the best in each other to give moviegoers a spectacular film.
