Tirupati cops arrest man who stole gold jewellery from TTD officials residence

Tirupati: The Tirupati Urban police arrested the man who stolen gold jewellery from the official residence of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams' (TTD) joint executive officer on 23 May. The cops recovered Rs. 15,200 cash and 173 gms of gold jewellery worth Rs. 6.5 lakh from his possession.

The Tirupati superintendent of police, A. Ramesh Reddy, said the accused has been identified as P. Gangadhar Rao, a resident of Vizag city. He is a habitual offender and has been involved in over 35 property offenses under various police station limits in Vizag, Vijayawada, Vizianagaram, and Rajahmundry.

Gangadhar had also served a five-year jail sentence earlier, the cop said. After his release from the prison, he went back to his old ways and shifted his base to Tirupati a few months ago. The police arrested Gangadhar on 26 May while he was trying to leave Tirupati.

"On 16 May, Gangadhar stole Rs. 20, 000 cash from Sri Padmavathi guest house in Tirupati. On 23 May, he entered the Tirupati JEO’s residence through an opening in the window mesh and stole 173 grams of gold," Mr Reddy said.
