Hyderabad: The Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, for development of curriculum and teaching methodologies, establishment of advanced laboratories and conduct of faculty development programmes and students workshops.

TMREIS secretary, B. Shafiullah, and Prof. B.S. Murty, director, IIT Hyderabad, signed the agreement on Tuesday. The MoU is expected to help achieve excellence in academic programmes. As per the MoU IIT Hyderabad will provide mentorship to TMREIS students.

“There will be greater interaction between the two institutions. The collaboration will help improve the teaching quality at TMRIES through short term and long term certificate courses”, said Mr. Shafiullah.

The TMREIS can now look forward to establishing of Atal Tinkering Lab, video satellite link and assistance in development of e-classrooms, library and labs. Atal Tinkering Labs are workspaces in schools where students of Class VI to Class XII can acquire innovative skills through hands-on learning. The Niti Aayog envisions nourishing one million students as innovators in the future.

J.S. Ifthekhar

J.S. Ifthekhar is a senior journalist with nearly four decades of experience. Ifthekhar cut his teeth in journalism at the Indian Express before he moved to The Hindu. He was also associated with the Siasat Daily, Telangana Today, Deccan Chronicle, Onlooker magazine, Newstrack, Detective Digest and a few news agencies. He has written on different subjects and aspects of Hyderabadi life. However, his passion remains literature in general and Urdu poetry in particular. He is equally concerned with culture, heritage, civic affairs and problems confronting the man in the street. As a journalist he has taken up cudgels on behalf of the underprivileged and many of his stories in The Hindu saw the government promptly taking corrective measures. Ifthekhar has authored two books - Hyderabad - The Nawabi City on The Move and Haj - The Spirit Behind it. He has also translated two books from Urdu to English. Currently he is working on his third book - Poets and Writers of Deccan.
