BJP to counter anti-CAA rally in Nizamabad: MP Arvind Dharmapuri

Hyderabad: BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri has written to Nizamabad Commissioner of Police not to permit Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi’s rally scheduled on December 27 in the district. The Nizamabad MP called the anti-CAA protest an act to create tension between Hindu-Muslim, adding that they (referring to the party) “will be forced to counter the demonstration”.

In the letter dated December 26, the Arvind Dharmapuri wrote, “The Muslim community held an anti-CAA rally recently in Nizamabad, despite a denial of permission from the police. It is an absolute failure on the part of the department for allowing a rally sans permission. The protest took place the day when the municipal election schedule was announced. However, police made sure that the Hindus do not take out any support rally owing to the code.”

Arvind further says that Asaduddin Owaisi is planning to hold a rally after a three-hour-long talk with Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday. “The rally will be held on Friday at Nizamabad against the Citizenship Amendment Act, National Register of Citizens, and National Population Register. He stated that the CAA is against Muslims and it is anti-Constitution. I am certain that as per the election code, he should not be granted any permission given the communal nature of his protest.”

The BJP MP had asked the Hyderabad MP to approach courts rather than holding rallies. Calling it an act to spread fear among the communities, Arvind Dharmapuri announced to counter the demonstrations during the march on December 27. “If the rally took place, we would be forced to counter the demonstration to reveal the truth, so that people don’t fall prey to their false propaganda,” he added.

However, sources in the AIMIM told NewsMeter that the meeting was planned one week ago, and the permission followed. “MP Asaduddin Owaisi and members of the Muslims United Action Committee were asked by TRS top brass not to restrict the rally to Muslims but include people from various communities. TRS Minister for Legislative Affairs Prashanth Reddy is to be a part of the rally. TRS cadre in Nizamabad will join the minister,” a source said.
