Hyderabad: It was a sombre scene at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) when the mortal remains of Charitha Reddy Aella, who was declared brain-dead in Michigan, were brought to Hyderabad in the wee hours of Sunday.

They were shifted to her residence at Neredmet.

Charitha Reddy, who was working in a software firm and was staying in Lansing, sustained severe injuries in a car crash at Michigan on December 27. She was declared brain-dead by Muskegon hospital doctors two days later.

The incident happened when a Muskegon Heights man, who was in an intoxicated condition, crashed his car into the Toyota Camry, in which Charitha and her friends were travelling.

Charitha’s relatives and friends began a fundraising campaign to bring her mortal remains home, before which hospital authorities harvested the organs from the brain dead Charitha Reddy, who had wished to donate her organs, which were donated to at least eight persons

After completing all formalities and legal procedures, the mortal remains were flown into Hyderabad.
