130 Maoists surrender in Telangana: CM Revanth urges Ganapathi to lay down arms
Hyderabad: Making a strong pitch for peace and democratic engagement, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday appealed to top Maoist leaders, including CPI (Maoist) central committee member Muppala Lakshmana Rao alias Ganapathi, to surrender and join the mainstream.
He also asserted that “ballot is more powerful than bullet” in resolving people’s issues. The appeal came after 130 Maoists, along with 124 sophisticated weapons, surrendered before the government in the presence of the Chief Minister at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) in Banjara Hills.
Record surrender at ICCC
Describing the development as unprecedented, the Chief Minister said such a large-scale surrender at one time had not taken place in any other State.
He congratulated the surrendered cadres for responding to the government’s call and choosing democratic life over armed struggle.
“So far, 721 Maoists have surrendered and 250 weapons have been handed over. This reflects growing trust in the government’s rehabilitation policy,” he said, commending the police for building confidence among extremists and facilitating their return to normal life.

Appeal to Central Committee Leaders
Revanth Reddy urged remaining Maoist central and state committee members to come forward and actively participate in the reconstruction of Telangana.
“We are sympathetic towards those who wish to return. Let us solve problems democratically and rebuild the State together,” he said, assuring protection to those who surrender.
He revealed that proposals submitted by surrendered leaders, including Devji and Damodar, were discussed with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The Centre, he said, has given the State flexibility to extend healthcare, housing and financial assistance to surrendered cadres.
Cases to be reviewed, panel possible
Addressing concerns over pending cases, the Chief Minister said the government is prepared to revoke cases within the ambit of law and, if necessary, constitute a committee to review them.
However, he clarified that serious offences would remain subject to judicial scrutiny. “We will examine each case based on legal provisions and the gravity of charges,” he said.
Financial package and welfare support
The government will soon take a decision on a comprehensive financial package for surrendered Maoists. In addition, the State will ensure better medical care, housing assistance in native villages and rehabilitation support. Health security coverage will also be extended, he added.

‘Dialogue is the only solution’
Invoking the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, the Chief Minister said India won Independence through non-violence and continues to believe in peaceful resolution of conflicts.
“Even powerful nations today resolve disputes through dialogue. Violence is not a solution to every problem. Ballot is stronger than bullet,” he asserted.
He said surrendered cadres are expected to bring people’s grievances to the government through democratic channels in the future.
Open to political participation
Revanth Reddy said former Maoists are welcome to enter public life and politics if they choose to do so. He noted that several former extremists have successfully integrated into society and are contributing to governance.
Reiterating that Telangana has no place for violence, the Chief Minister called upon those still underground to surrender and become partners in development.
“Let us move forward through dialogue, democracy and development,” he said.
