The cases have been registered under sections 153A, 469, and 505(1)(b) of the IPC and section 23 of the POCSO Act.
According to sources, on Sunday the cyber crime police summoned some web journalists who had shared the video and asked them to submit their response by 8 June. Meanwhile, the police are investigating how the video was first leaked before it went viral. BJP MLA Raghunandan Rao had shown the video and some stills from the video at a press meet on Saturday alleging an MIM leader's son's involvement in the case. But the police are yet to register a case against the MLA. The video was shared multiple times through WhatsApp and other social media platforms. Sadly, some media houses also picked up the video and shared it on their websites.
On Saturday, West Zone DCP Joel Davis warned, "Any particulars or any reference to the family which may lead to the disclosure of the identity of the victim/child is an offense. I appeal to the media to stop revealing direct or indirect content related to the victim which may lead to her identification."
So far, four of the five accused, including three minors, have been arrested in the gang-rape case. The fifth accused, Omair Khan, is absconding. Mr. Davis, on Monday, said the police are trying their best to catch the fifth accused. The 17-year-old girl was returning from a party when she was allegedly sexually assaulted by a group of youngsters in a moving vehicle in the Jubilee Hills area in the city.
