Hyderabad: In a move aimed at enhancing transparency and simplifying citizen services, the Telangana Transport Department has announced the launch of the ‘Vahan Portal’ on March 23.

The portal will be inaugurated by Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar.

The initiative is expected to streamline vehicle-related services and integrate Telangana’s transport system with the national digital database.

2% lifetime tax on second vehicles scrapped

In a significant relief to vehicle owners, the Telangana government has abolished the additional 2 per cent lifetime tax levied on second vehicles.

The decision will come into effect from March 23, coinciding with the launch of the Vahan Portal.

Single window for vehicle information

The Vahan Portal will provide access to vehicle-related information from across the country on a single platform. With Telangana joining the system, all vehicles registered in the state will be integrated into the national database, improving data accessibility and coordination.

Boost to transparent and faster services

Officials said the portal is designed to deliver transparent, efficient and user-friendly services to citizens. It is expected to reduce paperwork, minimise delays and improve overall service delivery in the transport sector.

Government’s digital push

The introduction of the Vahan Portal reflects the state government’s continued push towards digital governance and ease of access to public services, particularly in the transport sector, officials said.
