3 Telangana cops suspended for bid to misled probe into Rs 18L cash seizure at Musheerabad
The three ‘have been found to be acting in a partisan manner and not in a free and fair manner'
By Sri Lakshmi Muttevi Published on 29 Nov 2023 2:28 PM GMTHyderabad: The election commission of India (ECI) ordered the suspension of three police officials from different police station limits for attempting to dilute the charges in a case and misleading investigation by not naming the accused in a money seizure case.
The police officials suspended have been identified as Jahangir Yadav, inspector of police at Musheerabad police station; A Yadagiri, ACP at Chikkadpaly; and M Venkatswarulu, DCP of Central Zone, Hyderabad.
The election commission (EC) received a report from the special observers on November 29 that Rs 18 lakhs was seized from a vehicle at an apartment complex in Hyderabad. A mobile and chequebooks were also recovered. Once the case was registered the observers found that a wrong case was booked under Section 102 where it was mentioned that the cash was seized from ‘unknown persons.’
The observers complained to the EC that the owner of the vehicle and the cell phone and subsequently the cash could have been found out in no time, but this wasn’t done by the police officials on purpose. This led to the ECI directing the suspension of the Musheerabad inspector, Chikkadpally ACP and Central Zone DCP for trying to mislead the case on purpose.
The three ‘have been found to be acting in a partisan manner and not in a free and fair manner.’
All three police officers were deemed to be on deputation with the ECI since the date of notification of the election in Telangana on November 3. The commission after careful consideration of the matter directed the three cops to be placed under suspension with immediate effect and a compliance be submitted by 9 pm on November 29.
The Commission has asked for necessary disciplinary proceedings to be initiated against the erring officers immediately and disciplinary/proceedings shall be completed within six months as per instructions contained in the ECT’s letter dated May 31, 2023.
The Hyderabad Commissioner of Police is given authorisation to give additional charges/postings to eligible officers for the vacancies arising.
