32 airports reopen across North and West India following ceasefire between India, Pakistan

India: 32 airports open for civil flights after the ceasefire

New Delhi: A total of 32 airports across northern and western India have resumed operations after being temporarily shut down amid the recent escalation in tensions between India and Pakistan. The government lifted the Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) on Monday, allowing civilian flights to operate from these locations once again.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) confirmed the move following a ceasefire agreement between the two countries. In an official statement, the AAI said: "Attention Flyers; reference notice issued for temporary closure of 32 Airports for civil Aircraft operations till 05:29 hrs of 15 May 2025. It is informed that these Airports are now available for civil Aircraft operations with immediate effect. It is recommended for travellers to check flight status directly with Airlines and monitor Airline’s websites for regular updates."

The reopened airports include key ones in the Mumbai Flight Information Region such as Mundra, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Kandla, Keshod, and Bhuj. Others affected during the shutdown included Srinagar, Leh, Jammu, Amritsar, Pathankot, Chandigarh, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Shimla, Dharamshala, and Jamnagar.

The temporary closure was imposed amid heightened security after the Indian armed forces launched missile strikes targeting nine terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. These included known bases of terror outfits such as Jaish-e-Mohammad in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke, following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 tourists.

The Indian Air Force stated that calm has returned to the border areas. ā€œThe night remained largely peaceful across Jammu and Kashmir and other areas along the International Border. No incidents have been reported, marking the first calm night in recent days,ā€ the IAF said.
