U.S: Massive demonstrations are being held against the Donald Trump administration’s executive actions in the United States on April 19.
The 50501 movement—short for "50 Protests in 50 States, 1 Movement"—is a grassroots campaign aims to organize nationwide demonstrations opposing the administration’s policies, which organizers describe as part of a “hostile government takeover.”
Since its launch, the movement has held several coordinated protests, including nationwide actions on February 5, Presidents’ Day (renamed “No Kings Day”), and March 4. It also draws inspiration from the April 5 “Hands Off” protest, which saw solidarity demonstrations in cities across Europe, including London, Berlin, and Paris.
On April 19, 2025, the movement is planning its largest protest yet, with over 400 events scheduled across the country—from marches and rallies to food drives and environmental cleanups. Organizers are calling for 11 million people to join, representing 3.5% of the U.S. population.
Who’s Behind the Movement?
The 50501 movement is led by a network of grassroots activists, including its moderators and organizers from Political Revolution—a volunteer-driven political action committee born out of Senator Bernie Sanders’ 2016 campaign.
Why Are People Protesting?
The movement is fueled by growing concerns over the Trump administration’s policies, including:
1. Shrinking the Federal Government – Layoffs in the federal workforce and closures of Social Security offices.
2. Social Policy Restrictions – Legislation that legally recognizes only two genders.
3. Immigration Crackdowns – Mass deportations and increasing pressure on U.S. allies.
4. Cuts to Public Programs – Defunding of health, education, and essential government agencies.
50501 organizers say their goal is to protect democratic values, civil rights, and vital social programs by building a unified, nationwide response.
