Vijayawada: A six-year-old boy, Abhilasha, drowned in a flooded canal in Guru Nanak Colony, Vijayawada. The incident occurred on Friday following heavy rainfall over the past two days.

According to reports, the child fell into the canal while he was playing and despite the efforts of onlookers to rescue him, the canal was too deep. The police later entered the drain in search of his body, which was discovered 500 meters away from the incident by the VMC staff in Vijayawada’s Bharathi Nagar.

In a video, the boy’s mother said, “He went out to play with his friends, and within no time, his friends came and told me he fell into the canal. He was an innocent boy.”

Following the incident, Vijayawada CPM leader Babu Rao and the boy’s parents held a dharna outside a government hospital mortuary. They demanded compensation for the boy’s death. Mr. Babu Rao alleged that the municipal corporation should be held accountable for the incident and demanded swift action from the municipal officials to lend justice to the victim’s family.
