Guntur: Guntur Police have arrested a 70-year-old man for allegedly raping a 5-year-old girl in a village under Pedakakani Mandal. The accused has been identified as Shaik Subhani. Police said he used to sell candy and biscuits in a small shop.
Police said children in the vicinity visit his shop regularly for the eatables. The victim, who also lives in the same locality, used to frequent his shop for chocolates.
Police said on November 16, the old man lured the girl with extra chocolates and biscuits and took her inside the shop, where he allegedly raped her.
The victim narrated the entire episode to her parents on the same day.
Initially, the parents of the victim were hesitant to lodge a complaint. Later, they approached Pedakakni police seeking stringent action against the accused.
Pedakakanu police launched an investigation and arrested the accused on Sunday evening.
The girl was sent to Guntur Government General Hospital for medical examination.
Police said that the accused Subhani was booked under section 376 of IPC and section 5(m) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Leaders and activists have demanded severe action against the accused.
