Advancing monsoon: Heavy rains to lash parts of AP for next four days

Amaravati: There will likely be heavy rains at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema for the next four days. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning is very likely to occur at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, south coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, said on 16 June.

The southwest monsoon has meanwhile further advanced into most parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, some more parts of west-central, and the northwest Bay of Bengal.

According to the IMD, a trough runs from Rayalaseema to the Comorin area at 0.9 km above mean sea level. The northsouth trough from south Bihar to south coastal Andhra Pradesh across east Madhya Pradesh at 0.9 km above mean sea level has become less marked, it said. This resulted in further advancement of southwest monsoons.
