After Bharat Jodo Yatra, INDIA alliance, urban population will change their mind in favour of Congress
On pertinent topics such as the Women’s Reservation Bill, Venugopal said that the bill has been passed in the Rajya Sabha and has to be introduced in the Lok Sabha
By Kaniza Garari Published on 15 Sept 2023 8:23 PM ISTHyderabad: “The political situation in the country is gradually changing after the Bharat Jodo Yatra and the formation of the INDIA alliance. In 2024, you will see that the pro-BJP urban population of India will change their mind and favour Congress. They will stand with INDIA and INDIA is going to form INDIA,” said KC Venugopal, general secretary of the All-India Congress Committee (AICC). Venugopal was answering a question by NewsMeter, at a press meeting on Friday, about the party’s strategy to address the 35 per cent of voters who come mostly from urban areas and are said to have an affinity towards the ruling BJP.

Women’s Reservation Bill
Speaking to the media on other pertinent topics such as the Women’s Reservation Bill, Venugopal said that the bill has been passed in the Rajya Sabha and has to be introduced in the Lok Sabha.
In Telangana, MLC K Kavitha has been at the forefront of raising the issue of women’s reservation and has also been taking potshots at the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, calling him an ‘outdated leader’.
Jairam Ramesh, a senior Congress leader, also present at the press meeting, said, “The Women’s Reservation Bill is cleared in Rajya Sabha. We are very clear about the bill. The government has to introduce it in the Lok Sabha and pass it. Kavitha must not worry about Rahul Gandhi but about the Enforcement Directorate.”
‘KCR supports Modi in Parliament'
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Parliament, alleged Venugopal. “In the farmers’ bill, anti-democratic laws are introduced in the Parliament and KCR has supported Modi in this. We are speaking from what we have seen in the House,” he added.
“All those parties who are supporting BJP in the Parliament are against the people of the country,” said Venugopal. “KCR wants some Muslim votes and for that reason in Telangana he is trying to show that he is anti-BJP but when it comes to the bills in the Parliament that is not the case,” he added.
AIMIM factor and BJP’s ‘hidden agenda’
The AIMIM is with BRS and BJP, the Congress leaders said. “They are supporting the BJP to fight against the Congress party in the state,” said Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Revanth Reddy.
Venugopal said that the Modi government is not transparent in the Parliament and the ruling party has a hidden agenda. “After a lot of hue and cry for the special session of the Parliament, the agenda has been released but we are expecting something more. Let us see what more are they going to do,” he said.
Congress fingers crossed on Thukkuguda meeting
Congress workers from across Telangana have been mobilised to make the September 17 mega public meeting at Thukkuguda a success. The party is looking at bringing in a large gathering to announce the six guarantees to the people of Telangana.
Vice-president of TPCC Mallu Ravi said they are expecting more than five lakh people to attend the CWC meeting. The party workers from each constituency, aspiring candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections are going to come to the venue with their supporters. Despite the festive season, the party is looking at drawing large crowds for the meeting.
