Hyderabad: Come election, top leaders have redoubled their efforts to secure tickets for their sons.

Sitting MLAs are facing stiff challenges from local contenders within the party. Despite the political clout of the incumbent, the newbies are trying their best to their support base.

While the uncertainty prevails, some of the heavyweights are lobbying hard to get tickets for their sons.

Local heavyweights push for the names of their sons

Amongst the heavyweights who are lobbying for their sons include Malkajgiri MLA Mynampally Hanumantha Rao. He is trying his best to ensure Mynampally Rohit gets a ticket this time for contesting the assembly election. The rivalry between him and Labour Minister Ch Malla Reddy has prompted him to pitch his son against him. Both Malla Reddy who represents Medchal and Mynampally from Malkajgiri, on several occasions, created news because of the not-so-secret rivalry.

Other sitting MLAs including Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav (Sanath Nagar) and Deputy Speaker T Padma Rao Goud (Secunderabad), T Padma Rao Goud are also lobbying for tickets for their sons.

Minister of Animal Husbandry Talasani is lobbying for his son Talasani Sai Kiran. Kiran lost the Lok Sabha poll to Union Minister G Kishan Reddy in 2019 from the Secunderabad constituency.

Padma Rao’s son T Rameshwar Goud is also among the aspirants and remains active locally. Interestingly, both heavyweights are known for their historic rivalry. They will try to influence the BRS’s decision-making. Muta Gopal the Musheerabad MLA is another leader who is said to be pushing for his son Muta Jaisimha. The youngster calls himself a politician, youth activist, and active social worker.

Education Minister’s son seeks Rajendranagar

From the City outskirts, the son of Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy, P Karthik Reddy is seeking a ticket from Rajendranagar while his mother is already facing a challenge locally from veteran politician Teegala Krishna Reddy. Despite his assertions, getting a ticket for Karthik in Rajendranagar is an uphill task as incumbent and former TDP leader T Prakash Goud, the three-time MLA enjoys a political presence.

It is believed that BRS is taking a pragmatic approach of giving tickets to winning candidates even if it means sacrificing the incumbent leaders. For these leaders, the second best thing will be grooming their sons. On June 1, Minister K T Ramarao’s statements casting doubts over tickets to incumbents prompted the MLAs to make sure at least their sons get the tickets.

Akbar to introduce his son in this election

Speculation is rife that the AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi is likely to introduce his son to politics this year. Nooruddin Owaisi, who is a doctor by profession is likely to be fielded from Charminar Assembly constituency.

Despite assertions from Akbaruddin that the party will contest 50 seats in the last Budget session, there remains low scope for the party to trouble BRS, its present ally despite AIMIM’s national presence.

On several occasions, party chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi ducked the question of contesting more seats. The changing relationship between AIMIM and BRS may change the scenario.

Raja Singh’s suspension gives new lease of hope to Vikram Goud

M Vikram Goud, son of former Minister and Congress leader M Mukesh Goud now representing BJP is the top contender from Goshamahal, He is trying hard to get a party ticket from the important constituency in Old City in case the suspended BJP MLA T Raja Singh is sidelined.

Multiple contenders for single seat

Thirty MLAs are staring at an uncertain future after BRS surveyed to check the performance of their lawmakers.

This provided a chance for others to stake claim and increase their influence within the constituency. Despite attempts by incumbents to keep them under check, the aspirants are trying to grab attention from high command by carrying out activities.

Besides the Cantonment constituency (SC) which became vacant after the death of G Sayanna earlier this year, other constituencies like Uppal have multiple aspirants.

Sayanna’s daughter G Lasya Nanditha, who is a former Corporator of Kavadiguda, has become active. However, there are at least four top contenders from the constituency. They include the chairman of TS Mineral Development Corporation (TSMDC) and former OUJAC leader Krishank Manne, chairman of TS Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TSMSIDC) Errolla Srinivas, chairman of TS Beverages Corporation (TSBC) Gajjala Nagesh and Sri Ganesh Narayan who contested 2018 from the constituency on BJP ticket.

Uppal MLA, B Subhas Reddy is facing stiff challenges from within the party. The top contenders include former MLA Bandaru Raji Reddy and former Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, besides Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha’s husband Mothe Shoban Reddy, who is BRS Trade Union Cell president

Changing political equations brings hope for new blood

With 24 Assembly constituencies coming under GHMC limits, the leaders are trying to prove their support base. The 15 city assembly constituencies are mostly held by either BRS or AIMIM, The political landscape appears stable for now. But as the election nears, the changing political equations bring uncertainty and hope for the new blood.
