Alabama tragedy: Student from Khammam dies in US after gun misfires

Hyderabad: A 25-year-old student from Khammam died in a shooting incident in Montgomery, Alabama, in the US on February 6. Mahankhali Akhil Sai from Madhira town died after the gun he was holding misfired.

Police later took another Indian student into custody. He has been identified as Raviteja Goli. Umashanker, and Madhavi, parents of Akhil Sai, requested the Centre and Telangana government to facilitate the return of mortal remains from the US.

According to the reports, Sai who had gone to the US a few months ago was studying MS at Auburn University. He was also doing a part-time job at a nearby gas station

On February 6, he took the gun of a security guard. When he was having a close look at the gun it misfired. The bullet hit him in the head. The gas station staff immediately rushed him to a hospital where he succumbed. More details awaited.
