Amalapuram violence: Another 25 arrested, internet ban continues
The police said internet services will remain suspended for another 24 hours
By Newsmeter Network Published on 28 May 2022 1:27 PM GMTKonaseema: Twenty-five people were arrested in connection with the Amalapuram violence that erupted after the government proposed to rechristen Konaseema after Dr. B.R Ambedkar. Earlier, the police had arrested 46 people and registered seven cases.
According to the Eluru Range deputy inspector-general, Pala Raju, the arrested are from Amalapuram, Ambajipeta, Allavaram, and Ainavilli towns. The police formed special teams to nab the people involved in the violence and tracked them down through CCTV footage, videos, and photos.
Sources said around 19 YSRCP, BJP, TD, and other leaders were taken into custody. The DIG said they were keeping a close vigil in Amalapuram town and focusing on the activities of the anti-social elements.
Internet ban continues
Meanwhile, while the vehicular movement was normal in Amalapuram, internet services have been shut down since the first day of the violence. The police said internet services will remain suspended for another 24 hours. The city has imposed section 144 for another five days. Meanwhile, the people of Konaseema expressed their anger over the internet shut down. Students are also finding it difficult to study.
