Ambati Rayudu quits YSRCP in just 10 days after joining
The exact reasons for his sudden decision are yet to be known.
By Sri Lakshmi Muttevi Published on 6 Jan 2024 5:53 AM GMTVijayawada: Ten days after joining the ruling YSRCP, former cricketer Ambati Rayudu quit the party.
Rayudu joined the party in the presence of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in Amaravati on December 28. He was one of the few cricketers from the Telugu states who chose politics after their sports career.
However, in a post on X on Saturday, Rayudu said, "This is to inform everyone that I have decided to quit the YSRCP Party and stay out of politics for a little while. Further action will be conveyed in due course of time,"
Sources said that Rayudu asked for MP seat from Guntur, which was denied by Jagan Mohan Reddy. However, the exact reasons for his sudden decision are yet to be known.
His decision has come as a shock to the YSRCP ahead of the Andhra Pradesh elections. ySRCP party sources told that the senior leaders in the YSRCP are going to interact with him once again.
Rayudu announced retirement after IPL 2024. Ever since he met Jagan in May, rumors about Rayuduās foray into politics have been doing rounds. However, Rayudu has not given any official statement. He is a distant relative of Ambati Rambabu, a minister in the current YSRCP government. As a resident of Guntur, Rayudu says he is keen to give back to his state by creating more avenues for youth from the grassroots to learn and join professional sports.
During a media interaction earlier, Rayudu said that he wants to get into public service full-fledged by learning about the problems of the public and farmers. Ever since then, there have been speculations of his political entry.
