By Newsmeter Network Published on 30 Jan 2023 2:03 AM GMTASR: Fear has gripped north coastal Andhra Pradesh after two Royal Bengal tigers moved to Ananthagiri hills in Alluri Sitarama Raju district. One of them killed two cattle at Chinnacolony village Ananthagiri Mandal, on Sunday.
Forest department officials are hopeful of catching two big cats soon. Officials decided to set up a specially designed cage to catch the cats.
“We have observed that these tigers are on the prowl in the Ananthagiri forest for the past few weeks,” said K Vinod Kumar, DFO of the ASR district.
Recently, a team of wildlife experts visited the Ananthagiri forest and analyzed the big cats’ behavior and movement. The work for the specially designed cage will be completed in a couple of days. Some strategic locations have been identified to set up the cage.
Forest department officials said the two tigers – one male and one female -- are moving together since November. Officials said November to February is the mating season for the big cats.
Officials have also launched an awareness drive in the villages urging residents not to take their cattle for grazing in the forest. Elders of villagers asked the district administration to fix street lights for their safety.
