Visakhapatnam: Wait is finally over. Andhra Pradesh administration would start functioning from Visakhapatnam in July this year. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy told his ministers during a cabinet meeting held in the wake of the budget session on Tuesday.
During official meetings, Chief Minister has been announcing has been pitching Visakhapatnam as Executive Captial. Earlier, on January 31, Jagan announced that Visakhapatnam will be the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, and he will also shift to the city.
Even during the recent Global Investors Summit 2023, Jagan Mohan Reddy said Visakhapatnam, which will be the Executive Capital, will help in the Ease of Doing Business. He invited the delegates to visit Vizag and see the investment opportunities.
Three-capital issue in court
Meanwhile, the YSRC government had come up with the three capital proposal with Visakhapatnam being the executive capital. The matter is still pending in court as a batch of petitions was filed against the shifting of capital from Amaravati. Jagan government is waiting for the verdict of the Supreme Court to move to Visakhapatnam.
The apex court will likely hear the next hearing on shifting the capital from Amaravati on March 28.
CM's office in Vizag
A resort run by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) was demolished in February 2022. Now the state government has planned to construct a 5-storeyed hotel cum resort at Rs 190 crore. According to the sources, while new buildings are being constructed on Rushikonda hill, some of the buildings will be allocated for the state government offices, including the CM's office.
Officials are said to be planning to house some departments in the buildings used by IT companies at IT Sez, and Rushikonda.
CM warns ministers:
Ahead of the 2024 election, Jagan Mohan Reddy warned some of the ministers about their below-par performance. He said he has been monitoring the performance of everyone. He warned that ministers with poor performance would lose cabinet berths. Sources said that three ministers were on the list getting repeated warnings.
Earlier, In January 2023, Jagan warned over 40 sitting MLAs that they will not be given tickets for the next election due to their poor performance.
