Amaravati: The first session of the 16th Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly began on Friday. TDP MLA Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary presided over the proceedings as the Pro-tem Speaker.

The session commenced at 9:45 am in the Assembly Hall located at Velagapudi, Amravati. The NDA alliance swept the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections by winning 164 seats in the 175-member House.

TDP MLAs held the placards and raised slogans ‘Nijame Gelinchindi’, ‘Prajaswamyam Gelichindi’ and ‘Gaurava Sabha ki Swagatham’ when Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu entered the Assembly hall after more than two and half years.

Actor-Politician and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan entered the House for the first time in his 16-year-old political career as Pithapuram MLA and Deputy Chief Minister.

Pro-tem Speaker Gorantla Buchaiah Chowdary administered oath to Chandrababu Naidu and his deputy Pawan Kalyan, former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy along with many MLAs took oath as members of the Legislative Assembly.

After taking oath, Naidu, Pawan Kalyan and YS Jagan went to the Pro-tem Speaker’s chair and exchanged pleasantries.

Earlier, Chandrababu Naidu bowed and touched the premises before entering into the Assembly. Narasapuram Jana Sena MLA B Nayakar who belong to the fishermen community entered the Assembly dressed in traditional fisherman attire.

Naidu entered the Assembly as CM

Chandrababu Naidu who made a statement on November 19, 2021, on the floor of the House that he will come back to the Assembly only as the Chief Minister is today attending the session as the AP CM.

Naidu walked out of the Assembly on that day in protest against the highly objectionable remarks made by the then-ruling YSR Congress party members against his family. The then leader of the House and the ruling party members even made a mockery of the serious concern expressed by Chandrababu.

He walked out of the Assembly by declaring that this was not an honorable House but a ‘Kaurava Sabha’ and that he would re-enter the Assembly only as a highly respectable House.

Naidu did not enter the House after November 19, 2021.

172 MLAs took oath

According to an official source, 172 MLAs were administered oath by Pro-tem Speaker and TDP legislator G Butchaiah Chowdary. TDP MLAs GV Anjaneyulu, Pithani Satyanarayana and Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao did not took oath on the first day of the sessions due to various reasons.

TDP’s Ayyannapatrudu poised for unanimous election as Speaker in Andhra

TDP legislator C Ayyannapatrudu is poised to be elected unanimously as the Speaker of Andhra Pradesh’s 16th Legislative Assembly as no other MLA has filed a nomination to challenge him.

Secretary General of the Legislative Assembly PPK Ramacharyulu confirmed that nominations for the Speaker’s post were received only on behalf of TDP’s Narsipatnam MLA Ayyannapatrudu.

“All the nominations were received for Ayyannapatrudu. Three nominations were filed on his behalf,” Ramacharyulu told PTI, adding that no nominations were filed on behalf of anyone else for the Speaker's post.

He said that the official announcement of Ayyannapatrudu’s election would be made on Saturday.

Earlier, TDP General Secretary Nara Lokesh, Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan and others filed nominations for the Speaker's post on behalf of Ayyannapatrudu.

The sessions adjourned to 10:30 am on Saturday.
