Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh has recorded its highest-ever Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections for January since the tax was rolled out in 2017.
The state registered a 6.72 per cent year-on-year growth in net GST revenue.
Net collections stood at Rs 3,073 crore in January 2026, reflecting strong fiscal performance despite significant GST rate reductions and the implementation of GST 2.0 reforms.
The growth was achieved even as GST rates were cut on several key sectors, including consumer essentials, consumer durables, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, and cement.
GST was also withdrawn on life and medical insurance, while compensation cess was removed on most products, excluding tobacco, from September 22, 2025.
Above National Average, strong Southern show
Andhra Pradesh’s GST growth outpaced the national average of 5.80 per cent (excluding imports). Among southern states, it ranked second only to Karnataka, surpassing Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana. The performance highlights the State’s stronger economic momentum and effective compliance framework.
Ten consecutive months of growth
The State has maintained a consistent upward trend in GST revenue, with net collections exceeding last year’s figures for ten straight months from April 2025 to January 2026. This sustained growth points to steady economic activity, improved consumption patterns, and better tax compliance.
Key Revenue Highlights (January 2026)
Net GST Collections: Rs 3,073 crore (↑ 6.72% YoY)
Gross GST Collections: Rs 3,479 crore
SGST Collections: Rs 1,284 crore (↑ 8.37% YoY)
IGST Settlement: Rs 1,789 crore (↑ 5.57% YoY)
Petroleum VAT: Rs 1,490 crore (↑ 7.09% YoY)
Professional Tax: Rs 38 crore (↑ 25.60% YoY)
AI-led compliance drives revenue
Officials attributed the revenue growth to strengthened compliance measures, including the extensive use of artificial intelligence-based data analytics, targeted audits, and timely detection of ineligible IGST input tax credit claims.
These initiatives alone contributed over Rs 144 crore in additional collections, while improved IGST settlements further boosted revenues.
Total collections cross Rs 4,700 crore
Total revenue from all sources in January 2026 stood at Rs 4,704 crore, up 7 per cent from the same month last year. Cumulative collections up to January 2026 reached Rs 44,221 crore, registering a 4.79 per cent growth year-on-year.
Stable and resilient fiscal path
Despite a modest tax base and the absence of tax-rate-driven windfalls, Andhra Pradesh has demonstrated stable and non-volatile revenue growth.
Unlike sharp fluctuations witnessed in some states, the State’s performance reflects resilient revenue systems, efficient tax administration, and a steadily expanding tax base.
The sustained momentum underscores a stable fiscal trajectory, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a leading performer in GST revenue mobilisation at both regional and national levels.
