AP BJP chief Purandeswari writes to CJI, requests probe into charges against MP Vijayasai Reddy

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh state BJP party president Daggubati Purandeswari has written to the Chief Justice of India (CJI) requesting a Supreme Court inquiry into Rajya Sabha MP from YSRC Party V Vijayasai Reddy allegedly dodging CBI/ED cases, violation of bail conditions and continuing functioning through bail for over 10 years by misusing power and taking advantages of loopholes in the system. She posted the letter on Twitter as well.

Purandeswari has requested CJI DY Chandrachud to bring closure to all the cases against the MP in the next six months by immediate cancellation of his bail.

“As the state president of BJP-AP, I have received several oral representations from large sections of people living in fear in AP about people in power continuing to be on bail for over 10 years, enjoying high positions like the chief minister of AP and his Rajya Sabha MP Vijayasai Reddy without being brought to justice. They have repeatedly exploited all procedural gaps in the judicial system by repeated adjournments and non-appearances and prevented delivery of justice in every case filed on them by India’s premier investigative agencies (CBI, IT and ED),” Purandeswari stated in the letter to the CJI.

Purandeswari lists charges against the MP

Purandeswari enumerated the multiple charges against Vijayasai Reddy under various sections of IPC and said that dodging the charges shows the extent of ‘his manipulative abilities in multiple cases.’

The letter mentioned 11 charges related to cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property (IPC Section 420), 11 charges related to punishment of criminal conspiracy (IPC Section 120 B), six charges related to forgery for the purpose of cheating (IPC Section 468), two charges related to criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent (IPC Section 409), two charges related to using as a forged document or electronic record (IPC Section 471), one charge related to falsification of accounts (IPC Section 477-A).

“During the arguments on the bail petition, the prosecution (CBI) told the court that Vijayasai Reddy played a key role in the conversion of black money into white through investments into Jagathi Publications (owned by AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s family) from foreign countries,” her letter said.

The letter also mentioned that the MP, an accused in the illegal assets case against CM Jagan (then Cuddapah MP), was granted bail by a special court in April 2012.

The CBI had termed Vijayasai Reddy as a ‘kingpin’ in the case. The court had imposed certain conditions for bail and directed Vijayasai Reddy to surrender his passport, not to leave Hyderabad without its permission, make himself available to the CBI, not to threaten or influence any person acquainted with the facts of the case and submit a bond of Rs 25,000 along with the surety of two persons.

“All these offences listed were when they were in lesser influential posts. Now they are in high seats of power and using their clout to plunder public wealth and health by illegal liquor sales running into several thousands of crores in AP,” wrote Purandeswari, and elaborated on the MP’s connection with liquor scams.

Alleged connection in liquor scam

“Now when I have written letters to the Union home minister to investigate the AP liquor scam, we found that he operates a few distilleries through his benamis in AP as unearthed in our investigation. In fact, close relatives of Vijayasai Reddy with origins in AP funded the Delhi liquor scam and later turned approvers,” she said in the letter.

Allegations of illegal land acquisition

“When he was in charge of North Coastal Andhra for the first two years of his government, he actively threatened several people, collected money for himself and his party by using goons from Cuddapah and Visakhapatnam and threatened several businessmen, realtors and brought several acres of valuable land for his family members’ companies at throwaway prices. The market value of these lands near Bheemili and Visakhapatnam is around Rs 177 crores and his daughter’s company forcefully bought them only for Rs 57 crores. In fact, he had even masterminded the takeover of prime Daspalla lands on a development basis with insignificant share to landholders,” Purandeswari wrote and added that the MP has used his bail to acquire vast properties with prior information of establishing or shifting capital to Visakhapatnam and that there are several instances of his benamis with his active involvement in areas related to land, sand, mining and liquor.

‘MP uses threats to intimidate people’

Purandeswari also said that the MP threatened her when she raised a few of the issues involving him at a public press conference.

“This conveys a powerful message on how he can threaten the people of AP and also the witnesses or officers working in the government in his cases if they dare to testify against him,” she said. She requested the CJI to treat the MP’s ‘open threats’ as a violation of bail conditions and investigate how he is able to manage institutions and prolong his bail with several violations over 10 years.

‘Misleading statements on Vivekananda Reddy’s murder case’

Purandeswari further wrote in her letter: “In an earlier incident also, when former MP YS Vivekananda Reddy was murdered in cold blood, he (Vijayasai Reddy) was the first person to call a press conference and say it was only a heart attack and natural death. Later, CBI clearly stated that this was a pre-planned murder by his own party people and relatives like YS Avinash Reddy and his team. In fact, the CBI could not arrest Avinash Reddy in spite of court orders as AP police did not cooperate. This shows how they can mislead the investigation, threaten witnesses, continue falsehoods and delay trial for decades.”

Requesting the CJI to help with the proper and timely delivery of Justice, Purandeswari enclosed various documents in support of her allegations and complaints. The enclosures included all case details of Vijayasai Reddy, a letter to the Union home minister on the AP liquor scam, a letter to the I-T commissioner on illegal sand mining, the MP’s misleading speeches and media articles on his land scams in Visakhapatnam.
