Vijayawada: In a major development in the liquor scam that allegedly took place during the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) regime, two high-profile arrests were made by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Former Chief Minister's Secretary Dhanunjaya Reddy and former Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Krishna Mohan Reddy, were arrested after extensive questioning.

After three days of interrogation, the SIT officially announced their arrest on Friday evening. The two were questioned for over nine hours on Thursday, and are listed as Accused 31 and 32 in the case.

The Supreme Court had earlier dismissed their anticipatory bail pleas, directing them to cooperate with the investigation. Following this, both officials were summoned and questioned at the SIT office in Vijayawada.

The liquor scam, which allegedly involves thousands of crores, has seen major names emerge in the investigation. Along with Dhanunjaya Reddy and Krishna Mohan Reddy, Balaji Govindappa, full-time director of Bharathi Cement, has also been named an accused (Accused 33) and was arrested earlier this week.

The Supreme Court firmly rejected their bail requests, stating that all evidence pointed toward their involvement and that granting bail at this stage would hinder the investigation. It added that they could apply for regular bail before the appropriate courts, which would decide based on merit and legal parameters.

The arrests have intensified the spotlight on the alleged scam and indicate more possible arrests in the coming days as the probe progresses.
