Hyderabad: Apollo Group chairman Dr. Pratap Reddy gave "false statements" about former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa's health condition, according to an inquiry report tabled in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on 18 October.
Jayalalithaa died months after she was admitted to a top Chennai hospital. Following her death, a former judge demanded an investigation into her death.
What followed was the formation of an inquiry team headed by former Madras High Court judge A. Arumughaswamy who sifted through conspiracy theories, conflicting accounts of Jayalalithaa's illness and treatment at Apollo Hospital, and legal claims.
Justice Arumugasamy report was shared on 18 October in the Tamil Nadu Assembly by the government. According to the report, a top bureaucrat serving in the TN government in 2016, chief secretary Dr. Rama Mohana Rao, is "guilty of criminal actions."
The report also makes strong observations against the then health minister Vijaya Baskar and says Apollo chairman Dr. Pratap Reddy gave false statements on Jayalalithaa's condition.
The inquiry committee reportedly gathered evidence from AIADMK top leader O. Panneerselvam, Jayalalithaa's niece Deepa, nephew Deepak, and Apollo Hospital doctors.
