AR Rahman admitted to Chennai hospital due to dehydration, discharged after brief stay
The 58-year-old music icon was admitted after he complained of uneasiness because of his recent hectic travels

Hyderabad: Oscar and Grammy award winning music director AR Rahman was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai and discharged after a short stay.
The 58-year-old music icon was admitted after he complained of uneasiness because of his recent hectic travels.
The press release from the hospital said, āMr A R Rahman, visited Apollo Hospital, Greams Road this morning with dehydration symptoms and got discharges after routine check-up.ā
The legendary music director returned to Chennai from London on March 15 and complained of uneasiness, resulting in hospitalisation.
Several reports emerged in the media that Rahman complained of chest pain and underwent an angiogram. However, the bulletin of the hospital did not carry any such information.

Stalin checks on Rahman
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin tweeted that he contacted the doctors treating Rahman and expressed satisfaction over his condition. He also stated that Rahman is set to be discharged from the hospital soon.
The government of India has bestowed the fourth and third highest civilian honours on the music director, first with Padma Shri in 2000 and the Padma Bhushan in 2010.
The first Indian to win multiple Oscar awards, Rahman made his debut in 1993 in the Maniratnam-directed film āRojaā. He won the Academy Award for the film Slumdog Millionaire for best original score and best original song in the year 2009.
In the following year, he won the Grammy Award for the same film for āBest compilation soundtrack albumā and āBest song written for visual media.' Rahman also won the BAFTA award for best original score for Slumdog Millionaire in 2009.
Rahman won the national award for best music direction six times, including his debut film Roja (1993) and the most recent one being Mom (2018). He has won the Filmfare awards for music direction 15 times besides the 17 Filmfare Awards South.
Rahman was also recognised by the government of Tamil Nadu with the highest civilian award, Kalaimamani in 1995. He has won the recognition of several state governments, including Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
