Arup Kumar Goswami sworn in as Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh HC
By Newsmeter Network Published on 6 Jan 2021 1:15 PM GMTVijayawada: Justice Arup Kumar Goswami has sworn in as the Chief Justice (CJ) of Andhra Pradesh High Court on 7th of January. He took the oath before the Governor Biswab Bushan Harichandan and in the presence of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and other dignitaries in Vijayawada city of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.
It may be recalled that Justice Goswami was transferred from the Sikkim High Court a few days ago and he has replaced JK Maheswari who has been posted as the Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court. The transfers were recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium through a resolution passed earlier on December 14.
Governor Harichandan administered the oath of office to Justice Goswami, who is a native of Assam. Holding a degree in Economics(Hons) and L.L.B from Cotton College, under Gauhati University and Government Law College, Guwahati respectively, Chief Justice Arup Goswami began his career as an advocate with the Bar Council of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura in 1985.He was an additional judge of the Assam High Court for some time and elevated as its acting CJ before being moved to the Sikkim High Court. He is now the Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High court.
Meanwhile, all arrangement in place for the swearing in ceremony of Justice Hima Kohli, Chief Justice of High Court of Telangana. The first woman CJ will take her oath at Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad on Thursday. The concern department have issued traffic advisory given the high profile event.
