Hyderabad: In a major anti-corruption crackdown, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday caught an Associate Dean of Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTSAU) red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh at Rajendra Nagar in Hyderabad.

The accused, Dr M Goverdhan, was allegedly demanding illegal gratification in connection with issuing a seed licence and ensuring smooth business operations for a private firm.

Caught red-handed during bribe transaction

According to ACB officials, Dr Goverdhan, serving as Associate Dean (Agronomy) at the College of Agriculture, was trapped by the City Range-II unit when he accepted Rs 1 lakh from the complainant.

The amount was part of an ongoing demand for favours related to official duties.

Bribe was a ‘reward’ for issuing licence

Investigators revealed that the official had earlier taken Rs 25,000 from the complainant.

The bribe was allegedly sought as a ‘reward’ for issuing a seed licence through the Agriculture Department and to ensure that no hurdles would be created in the complainant’s seed business in the future.

Chemical test confirms acceptance of bribe

The ACB recovered the tainted cash from the possession of the accused.

A chemical test conducted on his fingers returned positive, confirming contact with the bribe money. Officials stated that the accused had acted dishonestly and misused his position to obtain undue advantage.

Following the trap, Dr Goverdhan was arrested and is being produced before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases in Nampally for judicial remand.

The case is currently under investigation.

ACB urges public to report corruption

The ACB has appealed to citizens to report instances of bribery by public servants.

Complaints can be lodged through the toll-free number 1064, or via WhatsApp (9440446106), Facebook (Telangana ACB), and X (formerly Twitter). Authorities assured that the identity of the complainants will be kept confidential.
