Bengaluru stampede: As Karnataka orders probe, here is how the tragedy unfolded
Among the deceased are 18-year-old, son of a Pani Puri seller, 12-year-old engineering student, and a 14-year-old school student

Bengaluru: At least 11 people died and 50 were injured in a stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday evening, as a huge crowd of fans gathered to greet the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after winning the IPL.
What happened on June 4?
1. On June 3, RCB defeated Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 final, winning their first trophy in the league's 18-year history. Grand celebrations and a victory parade were planned in Bengaluru.
2. On June 4, the RCB team landed in Bengaluru in the afternoon and was greeted by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
3. A massive police deployment was observed on the route.
4. The Karnataka government had planned a grand victory parade for RCB, starting from Vidhana Soudha at 3:30 PM and culminating in a celebration at Chinnaswamy Stadium by 5 PM. However, following the crowd incident and growing safety concerns, Bengaluru Police denied permission for the parade.
5. As the team entered the Chinnaswamy Stadium, the crowd outside Chinnaswamy Stadium was excited to see their favourite players.
6. The crowd far exceeded the available space and security arrangements, overwhelming a venue that could accommodate only 35,000.
7. Many youth climb led branches of huge trees, and frenzied young men clung to poles and even scaled huge walls to gain entry into the stadium to catch a glimpse of their stars.
8. Around 3.35 pm, the crowd that was waiting outside gate number 20 of the Chinnaswamy Stadium for over an hour became restless. When the gate was opened a bit for checking, the crowd pushed through the gate. Around 600-700 people, especially women, rushed in at once, leading to the stampede.
9. Reports say, at the same time, a temporary slab placed over a drain near the stadium premises collapsed under the weight of people standing on it. The sudden collapse caused panic, and a stampede ensued, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.
10. Police at the scene transported the injured to ambulances and shifted them to the nearby Bowring Hospital.
11. Many people had trouble breathing as the crowd raged over each other, injuring and causing the death of some individuals.

13. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah ordered a magisterial inquiry and gave 15 days.
14. Karnataka government to provide Rs 10 lakh compensation to kin of deceased.
15. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacted to the stampedes in Bengaluru and said the "The mishap is heartrending.
16. 11 FIRs have been filed over unnatural deaths.
17. RCB has announced a financial support of Rs 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident.
