Bhoodan land irregularities case: Telangana HC warns police against interfering in investigation
Hyderabad: Telangana High Court has cautioned the police against interfering in the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the allocation of Bhoodan lands in Nagaram village, Maheshwaram Mandal.
The court warned that any such interference, especially attempts to intimidate the petitioner, would lead to serious consequences, including suspension from service.
Petitioner claims threats over Land Probe Plea
The warning came while Justice K Lakshman was hearing a writ petition filed by Vadthya Ramulu, a resident of Padamati Thanda. Ramulu alleged that he had been threatened and coerced to withdraw his petition, which seeks a probe into the allocation of Bhoodan lands to several high-ranking IAS and IPS officers.
Constable grilled over alleged intimidation
In response to earlier complaints, the court had summoned a constable from the Maheshwaram police station. During the proceedings, Justice Lakshman questioned the constable about allegations of intimidation.
The constable claimed that he had contacted the petitioner for āvillage history verificationā under the directions of the Station House Officer and denied any attempt to threaten or coerce Ramulu.
Justice issues stern warning
Justice Lakshman, however, issued a stern warning, making it clear that any further intimidation or police interference would attract disciplinary action, including immediate suspension. He noted that the case involves serious allegations against nearly 25 senior officials and has drawn national attention.
Court declines to issue restraint orders
The petitionerās counsel, Dr. Vijayalakshmi, requested the court to pass specific directions restraining the police from interfering in the matter. However, the judge observed that such instructions were not necessary at this stage and concluded the hearing with a warning to law enforcement.
