Bhoodan lands encroachment: Telangana HC issues notice to Ranga Reddy DC for failing to implement directions

Hyderabad: Telangana High Court has issued a notice to Ranga Reddy District Collector Narayana Reddy for failing to implement its directions on alleged encroachments and constructions on Bhoodan lands in Maheshwaram mandal.

Constructions despite court ban

The case relates to survey numbers 181, 182, and 194 in Nagaram village, Maheshwaram mandal. Although the High Court had earlier prohibited any transactions or constructions on these Bhoodan lands, it was alleged that IAS and IPS officers, their relatives, and private individuals carried out developments, such as boundary walls and flat constructions, in violation of court orders.

Petitioner seeks probe

Biddamalla Mallesh, a resident of Maheshwaram, filed a petition alleging inaction by state authorities despite repeated complaints in February and March this year. He urged the court to order an investigation by central agencies, such as the CBI and ED, into the alleged violations.

Court’s previous directions

Earlier, the High Court had clearly directed that the lands should be treated as prohibited properties and no alienation, sale, or construction activity should be allowed. Despite this, unauthorized developments were reported, prompting Mallesh to move a contempt petition.

Fresh contempt proceedings

With no effective measures taken by the authorities, Mallesh filed another contempt plea. Justice K. Lakshman, who heard the matter on Monday, directed the District Collector to file a comprehensive report on the implementation of the June orders.

Next hearing on October 10

The court adjourned the matter to October 10, instructing the Collector to submit a detailed counter affidavit along with the status of constructions on the disputed lands.
