BITS Pilani to set up campus in Amaravati; Andhra govt allots 70 acres of land in Thullur
Amaravati: Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS Pilani) has signed an agreement with the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) to establish a full-fledged campus in Amaravati.
Under the agreement, the Andhra Pradesh government has allotted 70 acres of land for the proposed campus in Mandadam and Venkatapalem villages of Thullur mandal. The land sale agreement was formally executed in the presence of officials from both sides.
Land deal formalised
The agreement was signed by V. David Raju, Joint Director of the Estates Wing, APCRDA, and V.V.S.N. Murthy, Deputy Registrar and authorised representative of BITS Pilani. The registration was carried out at the Mandadam Sub-Registrar Office in the presence of Sub-Registrar C.H. Rambabu.
Three-phase campus development
BITS Pilani representatives said the Amaravati campus will be developed in three phases. Construction work is expected to begin with an initial investment of around Rs 1,000 crore in the first phase itself.
Admissions from 2027
The institute aims to complete construction on a fast-track basis so that student admissions can commence from the 2027 academic year. Once operational, the campus is expected to significantly enhance Amaravati’s profile as an emerging hub for premier higher education.
Boost to Amaravati’s education ecosystem
Officials noted that the establishment of a BITS campus marks an important step in positioning Amaravati as a centre for world-class education, alongside its development as the state’s administrative capital.
