By Newsmeter Network Published on 26 Feb 2024 9:32 AM GMTHyderabad: In a Sunday night operation, the Special Operations Team (SOT) of Cyberabad and Gachibowli police raided Radisson Blue Hotel and arrested Gajjala Vivekanand, the son of BJP leader Yoganand and director of Manjeera Group of companies, on suspicion of procuring and consuming drugs.
Several others, including Syed Abbas Ali Jeffery, Nirbhay, Kedhar, and six additional individuals, were also apprehended, as confirmed by DCP Vineeth.
Reasons for arrest point towards Vivekananda – who is also former chief minister K Rosaiah’s son-in-law – and his friend, allegedly using cocaine in the hotel. Drug tests for both individuals are pending, and cases will be registered based on the test results. Vivekananda’s father, Yoganand had previously contested as a BJP candidate from the Serilingampalli constituency.
Seized materials
Three used plastic covers containing one gram of cocaine each, white-coloured paper used for drug consumption, and three cell phones were confiscated during the operation.
DCP Vineeth, addressing the media, said, “Action has been taken against persons associated with a prominent leader. An investigation is on to find out more details of the drugs and the people involved.”
The current investigative focus is on uncovering additional details about the seized drugs, potential drug peddlers, and other individuals associated with the incident. Authorities stress the gravity of the situation, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour linked to drug consumption.
“Our teams promptly acted upon receiving credible information, leading to a comprehensive investigation into the cocaine consumption case. The arrest of Gajjala Vivekanand, the son of a prominent BJP leader, underscores the severity of the situation,” emphasised a spokesperson for the Cyberabad and Gachibowli Police.
