Interaction with 45 civil society members
Growing economic inequalities and disparities in the country are going to create a further divide. The economic inequalities are also being noted at the state levels with South Indian states generating more revenue than the large North Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, "The policies of the BJP are destructive for the economy and if this goes on for long it will affect the economic balance and also unity of the country."

On the issue of social polarisation, Gandhi said that it was more of the fear among the people that the BJP had created than hatred. Fear from other religions to protect one's own religion is being seen in the country. This kind of fear psychosis and intimidation is making people scared.
Rahul Gandhi spoke to civil society members about the intent of the Bharat Jodo Yatra which is to fight against the growing economic inequalities, social polarisation, and political authoritarianism.
He said, "Congress is the only party that appeals to people across different sections of the society."

Civil Society members who attended the meeting had mixed reactions as some were impressed while some of them were not. A member said, "With polarization, it is important to be more specific than general. The way out from polarisation has to be chalked out in a strategic manner to earn the confidence of all sections."
