Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her record eighth Budget 2025-26 on Saturday. The main areas of focus among citizens for this budget are the poor, youth, farmers and women.

The FM highlighted that this budget would be aimed to accelerate growth, secure inclusive development, invigorate private investment, uplift household sentiments and enhance power of India’s rising middle class.

What are the highlights?

1. New Income Tax Bill to be introduced next week.

2. No Income tax payable up to Rs 12 lakhs in the new tax regime.



3. Govt has proposed to add 36 lifesaving drugs and medicines to the list of medicines fully exempted from Basic Customs Duty (BCD).

4. A revamped central KYC registry will be rolled out soon.

5. Will increase money for Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 scheme.

6. Centre proposes to fully exempt, lead, zinc and 12 more minerals from Basic Customs Duty.

7. Basic Customs Duty exempted on raw materials for manufacturing ships for another 10 years.

8. Basic Custom Duty reduced from 35 to 5 percent on marine products.

9. Special window for middle class housing project; Swami fund worth Rs 15,000 Cr.

10. An outlay of ₹20,000 crores will be given for research and development for small modular reactors.

11. A modified Udaan scheme will be launched to enhance regional connectivity to 120 new destinations and carry 4 crore passengers in the next 10 years.

12. Government will establish a Makhana Board in Bihar to improve production and processing of fox nut.

13. 50,000 Atal Tinkering labs will be set up in government schools in the next five years. Broadband connectivity would also be provided to all government secondary schools and primary health centres in all rural areas under the Bharat Net Project.

14. A centre of excellence for AI in education with an outlay of Rs. 500 crores.

15. In the next year, 10,000 additional seats will be added in medical colleges and hospitals, towards the goal of adding 75,000 seats in the next 5 years. (Govt has added almost 1.1 lakh UG and PG medical educa?on seats in 10 years, an increase of 130 per cent.).

16. Cancer care centres to be established in all Indian districts

17. Govt will arrange for Gig Worker’s identity cards and registration on the e-Shram portal for 1 Crore Gig workers.

18. Rs 1 lakh crore Urban Challenge Fund to transform cities into growth hubs, promote creative redevelopment.

19. The investment limit for MSME classification to be made 2.5 times. Also, the turnover limit for MSME classification would be doubled.

20. Top 50 tourist destination sites in India will be developed in partnership with states through a challenge mode. the following measures will be taken for facilitating employment-led growth.

21. The Govt will introduce ‘Customized Credit Cards’ with a ₹5 lakh limit for Micro Enterprises registered on Udyam portal. In the first year, 10 lakh such cards will be issued.

22. A new scheme will be launched for 5 lakh women, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes ‘First-Time entrepreneurs’.

23. Govt has proposes to add 35 addiRonal capital goods for EV baiery manufacturing, and 28 addiRonal capital goods for mobile phone baiery manufacturing. This will boost domes?c manufacture of lithium-ion ba@ery, for mobile phones & EVs.

24.Social Welfare Surcharge to be exempted on 82 tariff lines that are subject to a cess.
