Buses too crowded: TSRTC suspends Family-24, T-6 bus tickets from January 1
This is in the wake of increased passenger traffic due to the Mahalakshmi scheme
By Newsmeter Network Published on 31 Dec 2023 6:57 AM GMTHyderabad: The TSRTC has decided to withdraw two types of tickets called Family-24 and T-6 tickets from January 1, 2024.
The Telangana transport department has taken this decision under the GHMC limits in the wake of increased passenger traffic due to the Mahalakshmi scheme, which is one of the flagship programs of the Congress government in the state providing free bus travel to women in Telangana.
āTo issue Family-24 and T-6 tickets, the conductors have to see the identity cards of the passengers and enter their age. Due to the increase in traffic due to the Mahalakshmi scheme, the conductors are taking a lot of time to issue Family-24 and T-6 tickets. As a result, the journey time of the services is also increasing,ā said TSRTC managing director VC Sajjanar.
āThe organisation has decided to withdraw Family-24 and T-6 tickets for reasons of inconvenience. These tickets will not be issued from tomorrow,ā Sajjanar said.
The Telangana Transport Department issued orders recently on the implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme. The scheme, one of the Six Guarantees promised by the Congress government, allows girls, women, and transgender persons to travel free of cost in Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) buses.
The scheme is aimed to benefit girls, women of all age groups, and transgender persons domiciled in Telangana. Effective December 9, they can travel freely within the state borders in Palle Velugu and Express buses.
For inter-state Express and Palle Velugu buses, travel is free up to the state borders. The State government will reimburse TSRTC for the chargeable fares that would have been collected based on the distance traveled by women passengers.
