Car crashes into barricades at Begumpet’s Praja Bhavan; Panjagutta Inspector accused of protecting real driver

Hyderabad: On early Saturday morning, a speeding car collided with traffic barricades in front of Praja Bhavan, the chief minister’s official residence and workplace in Begumpet.

The collision, which occurred at 2:45 am, wrecked the barricades and extensively damaged the front of the vehicle. The vehicle in question, bearing the registration number TS13ET 0777, attempted to navigate the flyover when the incident took place.

The driver, identified as Abdul Asif, 27, was detained at the scene. Despite initial suspicions, a breathalyser test revealed that he was not under the influence of alcohol. However, an investigation, aided by CCTV footage, suggested the presence of three other young women in the car at the time of the incident.

Responding to a complaint from the traffic police, the Panjagutta police registered a case of negligent driving against Abdul Asif.

However, there is speculation Abdul Asif was not the driver and that the actual driver might be the son of a former public representative from Bodhan. This doubt on the police versions was raised as during case registration it is alleged that another person’s name was added by the Panjagutta police inspector.

In response to the incident, the Panjagutta police detained Abdul Asif for a medical examination and are conducting a thorough investigation, as ordered by city CP Srinivas Reddy.

Meanwhile, relatives of the car driver argue that the absence of proper signage and the closure of the flyover might have contributed to the accident. They claim that the traffic barricades were not correctly placed, and the lack of fluorescent stickers failed to caution the driver from a distance.

Serious allegations have been levelled against Panjagutta inspector Durga Rao, accusing him of mishandling the case by substituting the actual driver’s name.

The deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Vijay Kumar is overseeing the inquiry into these allegations. On Tuesday
