Celebrating Ambedkar: 125-ft statue of BR Ambedkar unveiled in Hyderabad

By Nikisha Uddagiri Published on 14 April 2023 12:13 PM GMTHyderabad: A grand celebration was witnessed in Hyderabad on Friday as people from all walks of life gathered to celebrate the 132nd birth anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar, the father of the Indian Constitution.
The roads to Necklace Road and Tank Bund were blocked as people took to the streets to rally in honour of the social justice icon.
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao unveiled the 125ft statue of Dr. Ambedkar at Necklace Road. The statue was showered with flowers from a helicopter, making the event a memorable one.
Applause and cheers continued as the statue was unveiled, while singers and speakers described the leader and his importance through songs and speeches.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of people, including politicians, activists, and members of the public, who came together to pay tribute to the leaderās contributions to Indian society.
On the occasion, audiovisuals were played which hailed Dr. Ambedkarās role in shaping Indiaās democracy and said that his teachings would continue to inspire generations to come. The AV emphasised the importance of upholding the values of social justice and equality, which were at the heart of Dr. Ambedkarās vision.

About the statue
Standing tall at 125 feet, the statueās outer layer is made of beige sandstone sourced from Rajasthan, while the cladding is made of bronze. The circular edifice, which resembles the Parliament, will also house a museum, library, and an audio-visual hall. The statue is designed by renowned sculptors Ram Vanji Sutar and his son Anil Ram Sutar. The statueās left hand holds the Constitution of India in bronze. Spread across 11.4 acres, the project cost an estimated Rs. 146 crores.
