Centre may give BJP leader Etela Y-category security over ‘threat’ to life from BRS MLC

Hyderabad: A day after Etela Rajender’s wife Jamuna warned about a threat to Etela’s life from BRS MLC Padi Kaushik Reddy, the Union Home Ministry is likely to provide Y-category security to the BJP legislator.

In a press meeting on Tuesday, Jamuna said that Kaushik Reddy is trying to 'eliminate' her husband by spending Rs 20 crore. She alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was behind Kaushik Reddy’s plans to have her husband murdered. “If anything happens to Rajender or his family members, the chief minister would have to take the responsibility,” she said.

According to sources, a government order regarding the BJP leader’s security detail and related issues might be issued in the next few days.

After her allegations, minister KTR inquired about Rajender’s security and discussed the matter with the DGP Anjani Kumar. KTR directed the DGP to verify the matter and provide security on behalf of the state government.

Speaking to NewsMeter, a senior police official said, “After KTR requested Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar, the threat perception to Etela Rajender is going to be evaluated by the intelligence department. Since he is an MLA there are already police officers protecting him. Two men for 24 hours and another two for the 24 hours after that.”

The reports from the Intelligence department will be taken into account to understand the nature of the threat and accordingly, extra protection will be provided, the official added.
