Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao appointed new DGP of Andhra Pradesh
A formal order was issued by Chief Secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad in this regard.
By Sistla Dakshina Murthy Published on 20 Jun 2024 2:42 AM GMTAmaravati: Chandrababu Naidu government has appointed 1989-batch IPS officer Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao as new Director General of Police (DGP) of Andhra Pradesh.
A formal order was issued by Chief Secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad in this regard.
A couple of days ago, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu convened a meeting with the Chief Secretary and DGP Harish Kumar Gupta to overhaul various departments.
Accordingly, 19 senior IAS officers were transferred on Wednesday. Senior IAS officers including Y Srilakshmi, Rajat Bhargava, and Praveen Prakash were directed to report to the General Administration Department (GAD) for further posting.
Currently, Dwaraka Tirumala Rao is serving as the Commissioner for the Public Transport Department and also the Vice Chairman and Managing Director for the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC).
Tirumala Rao would replace 1992-batch IPS officer Harish Kumar Gupta. The state government has appointed Harish Kumar Gupta as Home Secretary.
On May 6, Harish Kumar Gupta assumed charge as the DGP after the Election Commission of India (ECI) transferred incumbent KV Rajendranath Reddy (1992-batch IPS officer). Tirumala Rao was one among the three DG-rank officers suggested by the state government to the ECI for the post of the DGP.
However, the ECI appointed Harish Kumar Gupta as the DGP. After the TDP-BJP-Jana Sena alliance came to power on June 4, decks were cleared for Tirumala Rao to become the new DGP of AP.
Earlier, Tirumala Rao served as the Additional Director General of the Police (ADGP), Crime Investigation Department, and dealt with some important cases such as AgriGold and money circulation scams during his tenure.
Tirumala Rao also played a crucial role in attaching properties of the AgriGold group and arrested the accused named in the charge sheet. The newly appointed DGP has also served as Director General of Railways and Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada Urban District.
