Chaos in AP Assembly over Naidu’s arrest; 14 TDP MLAs, 2 YSRCP rebel MLAs suspended

Amaravati: Pandamonim was witnessed in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Thursday which resulted in the AP Assembly speaker Tammineni Sitaram suspending 14 TDP and two YSRCP rebel MLAs. Two TDP MLAs Anagani Satyaprasad and Payyavula Keshav, and YSRCP rebel MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy have been suspended for the entire session.

The issue started as soon as the House proceedings began. The TDP members rushed to the podium with placards demanding the release of former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is in judicial custody for his alleged role in the AP Skill Development Corporation scam.

Amid sloganeering by opposition TDP members, Assembly speaker T Sitaram adjourned the House for 10 minutes. The speaker then requested the TDP legislators to go to their seats and allow the question hour to continue.

However, the TDP legislators continued the disruption in the Assembly, this time by hurling files onto the speaker’s podium. They protested by tossing papers in the direction of the speaker. They demanded the dismissal of the legal cases against Chandrababu.

A heated argument and a harsh exchange of words also ensued between the ruling party and opposition members.

During the commotion, speaker Sitaram issued a warning to Nandamuri Balakrishna for violating the rules of the Assembly. The speaker warned him that it is wrong to do things such as twisting the moustache and so on in the House.

Responding to the TDP members' adjournment motion on Naidu’s arrest, Legislative Affairs minister B Rajendranath said they could raise the topic in the business advisory council meeting. He expressed his willingness to engage in a debate on an adjournment motion. In a troubling turn of events, Kotamreddy made an attempt to physically remove the speaker’s monitor.

Nearly a dozen legislators from the opposition party raised slogans standing beside the speaker’s chair, holding black placards while TDP state president Kinjarapu Atchannaidu observed the commotion from the well. The pandemonium continued even as Social Welfare minister Merugu Nagarjuna was rebutting allegations that the Kalyanamasthu scheme was discontinued.
