Family tree: Chiranjeevi faces backlash over ‘worried if Ram Charan will give girl child again’ remark
Hyderabad: Megastar Chiranjeevi has sparked controversy with his remarks about wanting a grandson to continue his family’s legacy.
During the movie Brahma Anandam’s pre-release event where he was invited as the chief guest, Chiranjeevi expressed how he wanted a grandson with many granddaughters in his house.
When anchor Suma Kanakala showed the picture of Chiranjeevi with his granddaughters including Klin Kara, he said, “When I’m at home, I feel like I’m a warden for a ladies' hostel with all granddaughters. I requested Ram Charan to give me a son next, to continue our legacy. I’m worried if the next will be a girl child.”
Chiranjeevi has two daughters: Sushmita Konidela and Sreeja Konidela. Sushmita is the mother of Samara and Samhitha and Sreeja has two daughters, Navishka and Nivrati.

On June 20, 2023, his son Ram Charan and his wife Upasana welcomed their daughter, making him a grandfather once more.
His video which is going viral has brought him under criticism. A number of social media users were angry at the remark asking why a daughter cannot continue a family’s legacy.
No political comeback, says megastar
Chiranjeevi has reaffirmed his decision to stay away from politics, putting an end to speculation about his re-entry. Speaking at the pre-release event, he spoke about his recent meetings with political leaders.
The actor turned into a politician with the launch of the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) in 2008. However, in December 2016, he announced the merger of PRP with Congress. He served as a Union minister of State for Tourism during the UPA regime.
“For the rest of this birth, I will keep films close to my heart and serve the film industry, staying away from politics. Many people are having doubts about whether I will be active in politics again as some big leaders appear to be keen on bringing me on board. There is no plan to get back to politics. So, don’t have such doubts,” he said.
His recent meetings with political leaders, including prime minister Narendra Modi, had fuelled speculation that he might be offered a Rajya Sabha seat or align with a political party.
He clarified that his brother and deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan is carrying forward their political aspirations. “What I couldn’t accomplish in politics, Pawan Kalyan is doing in my place,” Chiranjeevi stated.
