CM Chandrababu tours Amaravati: White Paper on stalled projects, resources soon
Naidu has dreamed of making Amaravati a world-class capital as one of the top five capitals across the globe.
By Sri Lakshmi Muttevi Published on 20 Jun 2024 11:49 AM GMTAmaravati: For the first time after regaining power, chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu visited Amaravati on Thursday to take stock of the projects in the stalled greenfield capital he had championed during his previous term.
Chandrababu Naidu has dreamed of making Amaravati a world-class capital as one of the top five capitals across the globe.
Amaravati capital city project came to a standstill for five years, from 2019 to 2024 under the previous YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP government. However, the change in government has breathed life into the capital city project.
āWill release White Paper on Amaravatiā
āI went to take stock of the situation and decide on the next steps. We will release a White Paper on Amaravati with all the details,ā said Naidu, addressing a press conference on Thursday.
āThe construction of Amaravati was aimed to stop the migration of talented youths to neighbouring states. It hurts a lot to see how YS Jagan has demolished and stopped the projects which were started for the development of the state,ā said Naidu.
According to Naidu, had the Amaravati city project gone ahead as planned, widespread necessary road infrastructure would have been in place by now. Noting that nearly 55,000 acres of land is available in Amaravati from all sources, he thanked the farmers for committing their lands to the greenfield capital city.
āWhen YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced three capitals for the state, farmers of the capital region protested for 1,631 days demanding that Amaravati be continued as the only capital for Andhra Pradesh. Ironically, the sum of digits matches with the number of seats (11) YSRCP has won in the 2024 elections,ā said Naidu sarcastically.
Naidu inspects sites in Amaravati
Prior to addressing the media, Naidu inspected the Prajavedika which was demolished by the previous YSRC regime.
He later inspected construction projects, such as the residential quarters for officials, legislators and judges including the interrupted constructions of the high court, secretariat and other buildings. These quarters were constructed during TDPās regime between 2014 and 2019 but have been neglected after YSRCP came into power.
āAmaravati first phase to be completed in 2.5 yearsā
It is pertinent to note that after the formation of the NDA government, works related to the construction of roads, basic amenities and buildings began. The TDP is planning to build Amaravati with the same master plan as approved by the earlier TDP government. The first phase of construction in the capital city would be completed in the next two-and-a-half years.
A for Amaravati- P for Polavaram
"The farmers have called off their agitation with the confidence that their area will be developed after the change of Government. The agitation of the farmers for the capital will remain as an example for the future generations," the Chief Minister observed. In Andhra Pradesh, A stands for Amaravathi and P stands for Polavaram, he said, adding that Amaravathi will remain as the people's capital and the youth can confidently work in their State without migrating to other States in search of employment.
