Delhi-based election watch bodies, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch, analyzed the affidavits of elected legislative and parliament representatives and concluded that the Chief Minister, popularly known as KCR has 64 cases booked against him, of which 37 have serious IPC count.
While Kerala's MP Dean Kuriakose bagged gold with 204 cases booked against him. He is closely followed by DMK MP S.Kathiravan with 99 pending cases and Uttar Pradesh's Samajwadi Party MLA Mohammad Azam Khan has 87. Another Tamil Nadu MLA Prince J.G stands at fifth position with 73 cases.
In the run up to the Presidential Elections scheduled to take place on 18th of July 2022, these two watch bodies studied 4759 out 4809 affidavits of all sitting MPs & MLAs, who collectively form the Electoral College and are eligible to vote.
A close look into the assets of BJP led NDA's candidate Droupado Murmu- a graduate by education; revealed, she owns assets worth Rs 2 Cr. While joint opposition candidate Yashwanth Sinha is richer by a crore. Sinha holds a postgraduate degree.
If elected Murmu will be India's first tribal woman to be the President. However, it is permanent to note that, out of the total 4759 MPs/MLAs who are entitled to vote in the upcoming Presidential Election, only 477 (10%) are women. When converted into vote, only 130304 (13%) out of 1074364 are women votes.
The analysis of the affidavits throw light on various interesting aspects. For instance, out of 119 MLA elected to the Telangana Legislative Assembly, 90 % of them are crorepatis. While Andhra Pradesh is richer as the percentage sums up to 94 % of the 175 MLAs.
