Hyderabad: Addressing the media after the party’s Jubilee Hills bypoll victory, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy thanked AIMIM president and MP Asaduddin Owaisi and MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi for their support that contributed to Congress candidate V Naveen Yadav’s win.
“We are going to work together with AIMIM for the growth of Telangana,” the CM said.
CM Revanth extended congratulations to everyone who worked for the party, including the cadre, the leaders and the MLAs and MPs who supported and campaigned for the party.
‘Victory is a responsibility’
CM Revanth said that victory has increased the responsibility of the government. He said, “The Congress Party is not defined by elation in victory or despair in defeat. The focus of the party is fighting for public issues when in Opposition and solving those issues when in power. For these two reasons, the public support for the Congress party has remained strong.”
Congress mandate in Telangana
CM Reddy highlighted the unique nature of the people’s verdict, noting the vote split:
- Congress: 51% of polled votes
- BRS: 38%
- BJP: 8%
He stated that the electorate closely observed the government’s two-year tenure before delivering this clear mandate.
Increase in vote share
Friday’s bypoll victory shows a consistent growth in the Congress party’s vote share:
- 2023 Assembly Elections: 39.5%
- 2024 Parliament Elections: 41%
- Jubilee Hills by-election: 51%
The CM emphasised that even the combined votes of BRS and BJP did not match the Congress tally, affirming that ‘When Congress stands united, no one can defeat it.
CM Revanth said, “People have appreciated our fight against drugs. They have seen how HYDRAA worked and how, despite so much rain, there was minimal flooding in city areas. People have taken into account our expansion plans for metro rails, fine rice scheme, free travel for women, jobs, restructuring of educational standards, Aarogyasri issues and other schemes. For this reason, the Congress has seen a major shift in the graph.”
Focus on Hyderabad’s development
The CM reiterated his government’s commitment to developing the city into a ‘Vishva Nagaram’ (Global City), accepting the election result as a mandate for this task. Plans are underway for major initiatives:
- Metro rail expansion
- Elevated corridors
- Musi River rejuvenation
- Traffic congestion solutions
- Godavari water transfer projects
‘False propaganda by BRS and BJP’
He accused the BRS of spreading false propaganda against the government on social media and of not cooperating with development efforts, citing attempts to obstruct work related to the Musi River and water projects.
He also accused Union minister G Kishan Reddy of non-cooperation and obstructing the flow of pending funds and clearances from the Central government. He pointed out that despite Kishan Reddy actively working as the candidate in the election, the BJP only secured 17,000 votes.
He extended an invitation to Kishan Reddy for a meeting at the Secretariat to discuss pending Central permissions and funds.
A message to KTR and Harish Rao
CM Revanth Reddy used the platform to deliver a direct message to BRS leaders. CM Reddy said, “KTR must reduce his arrogance and Harish Rao must reduce his envy.”
He reminded them that power is not permanent and urged them to cooperate with the development agenda for the next two years, reserving political battles for election time.
The CM also cautioned certain media organisations against spreading misinformation driven by a commercial perspective, pointing out that some channels wrongly reported a BRS dominance despite a clear Congress lead. He urged them to maintain credibility and conduct an honest analysis of the results.
