Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy launched a Rs 1 crore accident insurance scheme for the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) employees.

At Dr BR Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat here on Monday, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was exchanged between SCCL chairman, managing director N Balaram Naik and Union Bank of India chief general manager Kare Bhaskar Rao in the presence of CM Revanth and deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other Cabinet ministers.

‘BRS bankrupted SCCL’

Addressing the gathering, Revanth Reddy said that SCCL and its employees played a crucial role in the Telangana agitation competing with the TSRTC and electricity employees. However, after the formation of the state, the SCCL employees were neglected during the decade’s rule of the previous government with survival becoming a question mark.

“The BRS government remained a mute spectator and joined its hands with the Centre to privatise the mines,” he alleged. The chief minister said that almost a decade ago, the government began its administration with Rs 72,000 crore debts, and now it has reached Rs 7 lakh crore.

Congress streamlining expenses

“During the inception of Telangana, the State Government had to pay debts of Rs 6,000 crores per annum. If the revenue income of the state is Rs 1.30 lakh crores, the debts made by former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao forced the government to pay Rs 70,000 crores per annum even after a decade to clear the debts in banks. Due to this, Telangana is severely facing a financial crisis,” he said.

Elaborating further, the chief minister said that Telangana was formed with a surplus budget of Rs 16,000 crore and paid Rs 6,000 crores per annum to clear the debts of banks. “The payments have now reached Rs 70,000 crores per annum during KCR’s rule and the state went bankrupt. The newly formed Congress government is streamlining the financial crisis in the state and has started paying salaries to government employees on the first of every month,” he said.

CM blames BRS for delay in Rythu Bandhu

Taking potshots at KTR and Harish Rao for making false statements on the non-payment of Rythu Bandhu to farmers, Revanth Reddy said that the previous BRS government had begun the process of releasing Rythu Bandhu assistance to farmers in December and continued till next October.

“During the recent Telangana Assembly Budget sessions, the government announced that Rythu Bandhu assistance for farmers will begin from January and continue till March 31. Within a fortnight, the Rythu Bandhu assistance can be credited into farmers’ accounts by diverting funds. However, we are following a financial discipline to cater to the needs of all sections of people in the state,” he said.

‘BRS ignored unemployment’

The chief minister pointed out that the previous BRS government didn’t notify vacancies in various government departments in the last decade. Even though notifications were released to a few posts, they were not resolved in the courts, and they didn’t take any measures to fill the vacant posts. In the last 60 days, the Congress government took the step of resolving legal issues for various posts and filled as many as 25,000 posts, he said.

“Why did the BRS government not take up the matter seriously? Instead of resolving the issues, it complicated further and left a blind eye on the plight of the unemployed youth,” he criticised.

CM slams BJP over inaction

Revanth Reddy dared the BRS to participate in a special Assembly session to discuss the two-time manifesto of the BRS and the six guarantees promised by the Congress government.

Launching a scathing attack on BJP Telangana unit president G Kishan Reddy, he said, the latter didn’t even meet this government on people’s issues. “The newly formed government went to the Centre and met leaders to resolve long-pending issues in Telangana. Why are you not cooperating? Why should we make Modi PM for the third time, so you can kill farmers? What’s the difference between KCR and Narendra Modi? Both of you have deceived the people of Telangana,” he said.

Ambedkar study centres in every constituency

On unemployment in the state, the chief minister said that the government is trying to instil confidence among the unemployed youth and initiating steps to fill the vacant posts through Telangana Public Service Commission (TSPSC).

“To avoid hardships for the youth in the state to travel to Hyderabad to prepare for the competitive exams, we have decided to construct Dr BR Ambedkar study centre in constituencies for unemployed youth in each constituency. Digital classes will be conducted by reputed faculty and professors from Jyotirao Phule Bhavan,” the chief minister said.
